Slaves: Bokosh and Glarbash

Slaves
General
Skolexari have a lot of different slave species but I invent them as I need them, and so I won’t create aliens just to fill the space.
Slavery involves a small percentage of the Empire’s total population, but it is an established and highly visible industry.
Skolexari don't like aliens, many of them find owning a slave weird, distasteful.
They have 2 distinctions for aliens (slaves).
Aliens (glarbash or bokosh) live in constant danger if unregistered (without Master). No recognition of personhood. Registered slave becomes property, protected by Skolexari property laws.
Skolexari primarily use aliens as a food source, which they call exotic meat.
Unwanted glarbash or bokosh are sold at Skolexari slave markets.
A Skolexari may watch the auctions for an alien that looks like they would make a good slave, buy them, and hope for the best. If something doesn't work out, the slave can easily be re-sold at the market to someone else. Most Bokosh don’t make good pets or slaves but sometimes a rejected Glarbash comes on sale and is bought by common Skolexari as a helper.
Skolexari assess aliens, determining if the species is glarbash or bokosh. Most become bokosh.

Glarbash
Glarbash is the Skolexari word for slave and alien.
Glarbash is a sentient, intelligent, useful alien kept in the home to help or serve in various ways. Slaves are treated well because they're usually wanted, useful, and can be expensive.
Glarbash: Small pool of high-end slaves, chosen from conquered species suitable as companions. Orders for high-end slaves take a long time to fill. Some Glarbash come from SB-5 military pact members, brought from other galaxies through trade agreements. Examples: Skolexari wants a human slave, human is special ordered from SB-5 pact ally. Human may be brought by a stasis pod. Cost a lot (time involved, training, transport). The slave was expensive, wanted, ordered. Glarbash kept as pets, servants, helpers, often trusted within the Skolexari family unit. It would be unlikely such a person would be mistreated within its owner’s family.
Some glarbash are well-liked by Skolexari in terms of being helpful, trustworthy, or safe to keep. It’s uncommon for Skolexari to abuse glarbash, if they no longer wanted their slave, they would sell them at the slave market. Many do become friends with or close to their slave, though this can be taboo to talk about or show in public (you would not be holding hands with the glarbash or treating them as an equal in public). Romance between glarbash and Skolexari is taboo (see Taboo*).
Most glarbash are softer alien species which cannot harm a Skolexari.
Most bokosh are either kept for meat, or tend to be fearsome and are used in Skolexari combat sports.

Bokosh
Bokosh= Skolexari word for true slave, literally means “worth nothing”. They also use this word interchangeably to describe an alien, it’s all the same to them.
Bokosh are aliens in Skolexari society, spoils of war. Sold at markets. May be sold for exotic meat,  sport (hunting, fighting rings, horrible holo-games), experimentation, science, labor, anything.
Normal Skolexari do not, topically, buy Bokosh as helpers or pets and normal Skolexari cannot afford Glarbash.
Aliens not part of SB-5 Pact or star-seeds are deliberately treated as animals under Skolexari law, even when they clearly demonstrate sentience, language, emotion. Their intelligence is ignored or denied by the Empire. Slaves can be tortured, killed, eaten, sold, abused, without repercussion.
Bokosh are collected from conquered worlds, planets are resource mined or terraformed and re-named as Skolexari colonies. For most aliens in this position, there is no "home". They're at the mercy of Skolexari. Only a small % of the conquered planet’s population is taken into the slave market, most is genocided.
Life of bokosh in the Skolexari Empire: Generally is terrible, miserable, and horrific.

Known Bokosh
Bitiks: An insect species, big, 6'5"-10', often have hard shell-like bodies but are diverse in appearance. Cannot speak due to biological make-up but communicate using simple sign language and clicks. Used in manual labor and in entertainment combat sports.
Skolexari don't trust Bitiks with their children or family, considering their potential to be dangerous (are physically as strong as Skolexari).
Bitiks are not naturally aggressive but will defend themselves. On occasion Skolexari have keep them as cheap bodyguards if proven trustworthy.
Bitiks in Skolexari literally means "ticking sound bug".

‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧ ‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧

Meepers: Aquatic species with beautiful brightly colored mosaic scales and no noses. Skolexari use this species for meat. Meepers are commonly sold at slave markets and bred on production colonies. Meeper meat is soft and delicious. Meepers are between 3-4.5 feet tall and physically weaker. They don't have teeth, claws, or any natural defense beyond being able to deep dive in water and hold their breath for many hours. Have the name "Meepers" because they make a "meeeeeeep! Miiiiiiip!" noise when upset or scared.

Can learn and speak Skolexari, are intelligent and social, but Skolexari don't care and view them as animals.

‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧ ‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧

Tivtalk: Reptilian species, big 6-11 feet tall. Strong, dangerous. Used in manual labor and entertainment sports (pit fighting, gladiator rings, training fodder for young Skolexari). Can speak, but open their mouth and push words from the throat, creating an unnerving speaking pattern.

Intelligent but defeated, loss of homeworld and communal bonds have left Tivtalk broken hearted. They are in decline and endangered with no viable or consistent way to reproduce, and no will to do so. Their society, bonds, and homeworld are broken.

Despite their fierce appearance and strength, they have a code of honor and under no circumstances will harm children (even Skolexari children).

Jaw strength is brutal, if they're able to bite, will likely sever the limb so their heads are usually bound with muzzles and restraints as safety measures.

‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧ ‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧

Babar: A stout hardy species between 3.5-4.5 feet. Bumpy, thick hides with large mouths and a huge single eye. Cannot speak Skolexari and bark boxes don’t work on them, seem to be stupid but express a natural gentle demeanor many find off-putting. Babar are slow and don’t blink often. They eat only wilted vegetation and drink muddy water. They like to hold and rock children and rocks. When upset, pick up things around them and throw it violently at the dangerous entity (rocks, usually). Sleep by closing their eye and curling downward, they don’t move, and are mistaken for lumpy stones. Used for: meat and hide is used for exotic textiles.

‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧ ‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧

Nargul: Dangerous flying reptilian alien 6.5-8’ and very strong and hardy. Used in manual labor (wings removed or clipped so they can’t escape) and entertainment sports (pit fighting, gladiator rings). Nargul can speak, though prefer not to. They’re intelligent, brutal, and hate Skolexari. Numbers in terrible decline. Nargul, one-on-one in hand to hand combat, are difficult foes for a Skolexari to defeat.

Transportation and housing of these aliens must be done carefully because they have the potential to inflict harm. Skolexari are fascinated with Nargul because of their great physical strength and natural hand-to-hand combat abilities, they make excellent training foes for young warriors because they’re worthy foes.

Sardool

Another alien kept by the Skolexari Empire for gladiatorial sports and training. Bi-pedal reptilian alien that’s brave and vicious, like the Tivtalk Sardool have lost a lot of their drive and often are irresponsive to attempts to communicate with them. They’re not being bred or otherwise sustained by the Empire, and are in severe decline. Those left are in the hands of private owners, who use them as star fighters in gladiatorial sports.

Eating aliens

Skolexari love exotic meat. Exotic meat is alien meat. They don't see other aliens as legitimate life forms, they have no issue killing and eating them. Skolexari don't differentiate between an animal (like a deer) and an alien, both are slaughtered for meat and eaten.

Limited species are sold for high prices, rare meat often served at royal functions as a discussion piece. This meat becomes limited meat as the species will become extinct, creating high prices.

To get exotic meat, Skolexari have to attend the slave market, which is part of most cities Skolexari market district. Aliens (Bokosh) are brought onto the auction block, sold to the highest bidder. Most of the time these aliens' species, name, or any information about them is not stated because no one cares.

Known Glarbash Slaves

Elvii’li

Elvii'li

Conquered by Skolexari long ago.

Elvii’li’s planet was terraformed and lost, no living Elvii’li even remembers it.

Some % of their native population was spared extinction and became slaves for Skolexari elites.

This is one of the more common slaves seen in the Skolexari Empire.

Elvii’li make excellent pets, companions, and servants. They’re weaker than Skolexari, not a threat, and easily controlled. Skolexari generally find them to be visually pleasant (attractive, cute, interesting). Skolexari consider them stupid but affectionate. Emotional and easily bullied, usually trusted around Skolexari children due to their gentle demeanor.

Abilities: Can make light appear between their hands. This serves no purpouse beyond it being visually beautiful.

Appearance: humanoid, 4'5-6’ height, typically petite, yellow and pink skin tone, pastel hair colors, blush different colors, soft skin, have small blunt tails, sometimes have cute shiny curled horns growing out of their heads, blush easily.

Other: May suffer from some genetic disorders due to Skolexari breeding and tend to only live around 60 years. Easily trained, submissive. Skolexari breed Elvii’li on some colonies.

It’s legal but seen as distasteful to buy an Elvii’li to eat.

Elvii'li pictured below~

‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧ ‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧

Humans: Humans are prized as pets and companions. Intelligent, adaptable, and amusing. Easily controlled and easily kept healthy.

Humans have a good reputation among Skolexari as making good slaves for a variety of tasks and needs.

Humans are very expensive to acquire and must be special-ordered. These are uncommon though highly sought out slaves.

Humans are from another SB-5 Pact member, not from Skolexari.

Seen by Skolexari as soft, fragile, useful, entertaining, but unimpressive. Unable to damage an adult Skolexari without a weapon, this makes humans generally safe to have in families and humans can be trained as well as taught to speak Skolexari.

It’s legal but seen as distasteful to buy a human to eat.

Creator Notes: I included humans in my Skolexari world because I know the majority of people want to write as or interact with or have the ability to interact with humans. The alien species that has humans could be a non Star-Seed SB-5 Pact member or another Star-Seed species, their galaxy may be far from the Skolexari homeworld. I am not going to define that at this time, maybe never.
