Echla (skolexari universe: species)

Echla

Relationship to Skolexari: SB-5 Pact member (in military alliance) as Star-Seed (brought in by Skolexari to preserve them).

12/20/25

Species Name (Skolexari name): Avrynariel (Skolexari meaning “night-radiant”)

Species Name: Echla

Homeworld: Sazla.

Unique traits: elixir blood, tips of pointed ears glow red when happy.

Blood color: Purple (dark).

Eye color: red only

Hair color: black only, shiny, curls at ends, grows slowly

Skin: Stardust grey, charcoal, or onyx with glittery or freckled patches (shimmery, shiny, stardust).

Age: live up to 500 years

Technology: Guarded, is not shared with allies and little is known about it. Based on nanotechnology but primitive and native to Echla, they rarely leave their planet and so didn’t develop space travel (completely within their means and understanding but no cultural drive to do so). Have left the planet only since joining SB-5 Military Pact. Echla view their nanotechnology as a living separate species, calling it Ozou.

Ozou & Echla: Echla are given Ozou as children in a family ceremony, they believe Ozou is another species and their friend. In ancient times, Echla thought Ozou was a god. Other species (aliens) call Ozou nanotech, and assume it was introduced to ancient Echla by another species. Ozou replicates and survives by feeding on organic matter yet is not predatory nor destructive to its host or environment, needing very little to maintain itself or replicate. Echla could use their bonds with Ozou to do a great many things but they use it for very little, mostly for personal protection and as clothing.

Culture: Patriarchy, strictly. Twice the male population to female population. It hasn’t always been that way but they’re having a crisis of the sexes, and more male babies continue to be born than females (species is in danger of extinction if birth rate continues in this manner or worsens). Curious but secretive, love to learn about others but dislike sharing their own knowledge. In this way are inherently selfish, culture promotes the self over the group creating intense competition between men in almost all facets of life.

Warriors: Males are often trained in combat under the assumption other males will challenge them to duels over disputes. Men are similar to Skolexari Reborn warriors, training in traditional hand-to-hand combat with melee weapons. Skilled duelists hold a lot of respect, and are often employed by wealthy families to train offspring.

Orb duels: Duel using many gravitational orbs, which bludgeon their opponent to death. Fighting styles and duels consist of dodging orbs, striking with orbs. If all orbs are broken, then they fight in hand-to-hand combat (bare handed), wrestling and using choke-holds.

Men: Rule and control society. Only men hold positions of power, government, or education. Men are expected to rule over their homes and create an orderly, peaceful place where everyone is comfortable. He is responsible for the care of his family in terms of providing income, safety, and a home. He should be smart, capable, and skilled. He should be able to deal with the external world so it doesn’t infect his mates or other vulnerable family members' home life. Expected to be fair, tolerant, and have self-control. A good family leader's strength and good examples shine through his entire family.

Women: Women have less rights than men, to most other species their women have no rights at all. She’s property of her father and then her husband. Women are in a subservient role, expected to serve the males in their life nonstop and without thanks under belief “it is her pleasure”. Locked in hyper feminine and traditional roles, even though the rest of the species and world exists in a space faring modern society.

Social control of female members is throughout society, leaving even ones who may wish to escape little to no venues to do so. Rebellious or problematic ladies were killed by older male family members, seen as disgraceful. Due to modern population issues this practice is falling out rapidly, now problematic women end up in reformatories to be re-educated or married off to men who are able to control them.

Women are the responsibility of their male counterparts, whatever the woman does is the man’s problem. It reflects badly on males in their family. They’re seen as weak or incompetent for being unable to control the women, creating a circle of social pressure on both genders.

Women are seen as dumber than males. Women are expected to know everything about caring for others and running a home, even in regards to the repair of the home and land. She also must control the interior decor, clothing, cooking, and everything related to the care of children and elderly. Women are usually so busy working they don’t have time for anything else, few are educated.

Cultural symbols: Circles, tall spiraling buildings (corkscrew), stars and starlight.

Marriages: Arranged or chosen by the male, girl has no say. In complex deals arranged by males, male family has to produce a reverse dowry (he provides money or gifts for the bride’s family as payment for her). If the male’s line is greater than hers, her family may gift her to them without any dowry because they want her to be part of a great line.

Signs of change: Current society highly values female babies being born in unions and female children have a high worth in social exchanges because so many families are seeking mates for their sons there is a lot of competition. Lack of females is changing their culture. Many fathers are now investing more time into their daughters to teach them unique skills, educating them in hopes they can compete to marry into a wealthy clan. So many men are without mates, the hope of getting one gives women more power in general. She can now wield the worth of her rarity to gain power in her household as her mate would never risk her breaking their union (divorces him) or that he harms her. Women now can easily divorce or leave a union and find another mate, in the past this would have been impossible but now she has a huge selection of partners. This is also leading to the creation of women run groups, now demanding equal rights. No longer fearing death, she may wield divorce as a weapon against her mate.

Children: Are traditionally property of the father or male side of the family, this has also been contested in recent years. Sometimes the women may keep the female children and the male the male children, this is also being contested as so few female babies are being born.

Blood: Blood affects some species as a healing elixir, it doesn’t affect all species the same but those it does may find drinking Echla blood helps to fight chronic disease, increase overall health, and help wounds heal faster. Skolexari gain a positive boon from transfusions of Echla blood, it’s stocked in low quantities to treat catastrophic injuries in high value warriors. It’s also stocked at select hospitals, usually reserved for the royalty, elite, or children. Has no positive benefit if drank, must be given intravenously.

Examples of typical Echla look, female and male.

Slaves: Bokosh and Glarbash

Slaves General Skolexari have a lot of different slave species but I invent them as I need them, and so I won’t create aliens just to fill the space. Slavery involves a small percentage of the Empire’s total population, but it is an established and highly visible industry.  Skolexari don't like aliens, many of them find owning a slave weird, distasteful. They have 2 distinctions for aliens (slaves). Aliens (glarbash or bokosh) live in constant danger if unregistered (without Master). No recognition of personhood. Registered slave becomes property, protected by Skolexari property laws. Skolexari primarily use aliens as a food source, which they call exotic meat. Unwanted glarbash or bokosh are sold at Skolexari slave markets. A Skolexari may watch the auctions for an alien that looks like they would make a good slave, buy them, and hope for the best. If something doesn't work out, the slave can easily be re-sold at the market to someone else. Most Bokosh don’t make good pets or ...
