Species Name: JeridonSkolexari Name: Gargoyle
Appearance: Humanoids with long arms and clawed fingers, digitigrade legs (gargoyle-like) with large talons. Dark and natural skin tones with dapple patterns and spots. Variety of bright eye colors. Pointed ears. Hard featherless wings with large forewings and smaller, translucent, swept-back hindwings. Wings are covered in natural filigree patterns that are a defining feature of Jeridons, the filigree patterns. Some have natural colored wings, others metallic, pearly, or shiny ones but filigree patterns are present on all Jeridon wings. Male Jeridon do not have nipples.
Clothing: Wear detailed elaborate pants which are a mix of handmade cloth, leather, and metal often intricate in detail and tight-fitting. Wear less clothing on upper bodies, males often barechested. Females wear leather fitted tops. Their lack of clothing on their upper bodies is comfort based because of their large wings, they dislike anything rubbing on their scapula and wing-pivot area of the back.
Flight: Despite their size and humanoid bodies, they fly well and easily, able to lift off from a stationary position. Are comfortable flying, it is second nature.
Lifespan: 300 years.
Reproduction: Humanoid equivalent. Are not able to cross-breed or create hybrids with the vast majority of species. Cannot cross-breed with Skolexari.
Abilities: Like Skolexari, they have hard, heavy bones and weigh a lot. Able to withstand brutal physical blows or crashes onto the ground without breaking their wings or bones. The delicate appearance of their long arms, fingers, and wings are an illusion; they’re one of the Skolexari’s greatest allies and physical matches. Hardy, tolerant of extremes, and able to hold their breath for extended periods of time. Many have learned to dive and use their wings to swim quickly underwater. Excellent hearing.
Diet: Copper and mineral heavy, eat mostly root vegetables and meat. Need to drink a lot of water, become dehydrated easily but can endure it for days before collapse.
Culture and history with Skolexari: Long history of warring tribes and hatred between tribes, have always been intensely clannish and prideful of ethnic heritage. When they joined the Skolexari SB-5 Pact their culture changed into pride of species, though they never forgot their clans. Warring has stopped amongst themselves as their efforts turned to the stars, outward instead of inward. Jeridons are the steadfast friends of their Skolexari allies, finding harmony in similar views of a repeating universe, bluntness, clan loyalty, and combat. Defined by their modern history bonded to the Skolexari, Jeridons are the largest population besides the Skolexari in the Empire and military. Jeridon have their own military, which works alongside the Skolexari. Entered the SB-5 Pact as an equal and of their own free will, not as something needing to be protected. They saw a similar soul in the Skolexari and chose alliance and betterment of both their species over war, which would have been catastrophic and lengthy.
Jeridons have a deep sense of connection to the natural world but a lack of empathy for aliens which are “other” to them. Like Skolexari, they accept other species with pointed ears as “brothers” but reject aliens who have blunt or non-pointed ears. This similarity with Skolexari was such a profound link between them that their connection was immediate.
Jeridons like freedom but their definition of freedom is alien, they value personal freedom (not telling another Jeridon how to live their life) but have no issue with enslavement of other species. They’re sensitive to any perception of being controlled in a way which deviates their natural fate from its path, Jeridons tend to leave each other alone to find their own way and are hesitant to offer guidance to each other even when it’s needed.
Traits: Blunt, resilient, willful, freedom-loving.
Planet: Jee.
Jee: Land of rolling green and a variety of mountains and unique rock formations, abundance of freshwater, moderate/temperate climate. Vastly underdeveloped intentionally (part of Jeridon faith) with 3 megacities that house majority of population.
