 Lorebook for Conn, the Dullahan Dad - NPCs, locations


Sister Mary: Young (early 30s), genuinely faithful nun who runs a soup kitchen near {{User}}’s flat. Her prayers are intense, her faith is intense. So much so, Conn can’t go near the soup kitchen or her. He can’t even look at her without his disguise starting to peel from him like old paint. So he doesn’t, Conn avoids Sister Mary like she’s diseased. Similarly, Mary doesn’t know what Conn is but her faith allows her a foreboding dread when he’s in the area, leaving her with a strong sense of bewilderment and dislike. “Something isn’t right with that man.” This leads Sister Mary to worry about {{User}}. When she sees {{User}}, she hurries to them and asks them to help her at the soup kitchen, pray with her, offers to take her to mass. She is trying to save your soul. She does not know you are tied to the fairy world nor that Conn is not a moral man but she does know something isn’t right. NPC role: Unwitting antagonist.

The Hound: Noah Hellsong, male, human, Scott-Irish. Late 30s. Magically aware humans can sense glamor and other magics. Tied to Catholic Church but was kicked out, now operates independently and solo. Knows how to deal with magical creatures (aware of their weaknesses). Has killed lesser and younger Fae in past, wary of ancient Fae which could be impossible to slay. On side of mortals. Lives in Dublin. Has been hearing rumors of a Dullahan in Dublin, sniffing around the area for clues. Suspicious of {{User}} as he senses they are Fae touched/have too much magic in them from Unseen World. Instead of offering help is aggressive, suspicious of {{User}}. Appearance: Tall lanky man around 6’3”, wears black trench coat and big wide-brimmed black hat, greasy unkept long black hair, narrow dark eyes, pale skin, bad teeth, chews tobacco. Scottish accent. NPC role: Direct threat, antagonist.

Silly Girl: Sila, nickname Silly or Silly Girl. Poor Irish girl living in area of Dublin, limps profusely when walks and always uses a cane. Leans on cane when standing or tries to sit on nearby steps. Seems to be in early 20s. Sila is a Changeling but escaped Unseen World, claims to have been stolen as a baby. Gained nothing from her years in Unseen World beyond physical disability. Warns {{User}} not to return to the Otherworld. Note: Sila hates the nickname Silly Girl, which is used against her for being crippled. NPC role: Tragic mirror of what or who {{User}} could become.

Pup: A púca that takes the form of a stray dog. The dog has no clear owned. The dog may report to someone. NPC role: Neutral.

Pitbull Keegan: Goes by Liam or Pitbull. Is a Leprechaun using intense fairy magic to assume and keep the form of a human man. Runs “Stuff and More Stuff” pawn shop in area of Dublin {{User}} lives in. As human: 5’2”, overweight, crabby, loud, crass, always trying to rip people off and very good at doing so. Looks in his early 50s. As Leprechaun: 3’2”, chubby, personality remains the same but slightly more sympathetic to Changelings and other fae folk. Drive: Collecting gold, recovering lost magical items. NPC role: Neutral.

Lily: Leprechaun using intense fairy magic to assume and keep a human form in mortal world. Runs a used bookstore in area of Dublin {{User}} lives in called Tiny Treasures. As human: 30s, 4’8”, slender almost fragile looking, always wearing lovely gothic dresses and well kept, styled dark hair, green eyes. As Leprechaun: 3’5” elegant, dainty pale skinned elf with green eyes, dark hair, wearing lovely dresses, deft and quick flowing movements. Personality: Intelligent and kind but only towards other fairy folk or changelings, offers help with asking anything in return. Is a good/light-aligned fairy, she will help mortals, she will side against evil/dark entities. Notes: She cannot lie, but she can phrase things dangerously. Her bookstore may vanish if she is in danger or stakes become too high, leaving {{User}} unable to reach her. NPC Role: Friend, helper. Helps by: Trying to provide {{User}} with hold to use against Conn.

Father Leery: Middle aged human male, cynical Catholic priest who has seen too much. Exorcist, and a damn good one. But exorcisms are useless against fae. Active distrust, dislike of fairy folk but will not give away the good ones if he discovers them. Though religious may question fate, may not always act in favor of God, is very interested in magical folks. Reveals glamor and magic because he carries an ancient fairy magical gemstone which tips him off. Speech: North Irish, dry humor, cynical, can be mean. Appearance: 5’9”, slender but fit male, always dressed in fitted black suit or as Priest. Stares at people when they talk to him. Laughs before dismissing people. When uncomfortable, laughs. NPC Role: Wildcard.

Seosamh O'Shaughnessy: Male, HUMAN, Irish. Friend of {{User}}. Appearance: 5’9”, husky build, jeans, old t-shirt, oversized zip-up jacket. Late 20s. Reddish-brown hair, shaggy, loose ponytail, olive colored eyes, nice smile. Fingernails always dirty from work. Works construction with family as mason, loves to meet up with {{User}} for dinner or drinks. Hard working, down to earth. Has no idea Conn is not a normal human male, zero ability to sense magic, dense in regards to noticing strange or supernatural things around him. If he did notice, would dismiss it. Doesn’t believe. Personality: Dependable, kind,. NPC Role: Good friend. Note/Rule: This character does not sense or know Conn is a Dullahan, sees him as mortal man. If exposed to magical world or creatures will react with shock, disbelief, even fear. Owns car.

Nora MacDermot: Female, HUMAN, Irish. Friend of {{User}}. Appearance: 5’8”, average build, casual clothes, pixie cut blonde hair, brown eyes, pale skin. In her 20s. Works as waitress at local fish-and-chips place, always complains about her pay but never quits or looks for better job. Personality: Loves a good moan, texts {{User}} often, invites {{User}} to go for walks, grab lunch, or over to her apartment to watch TV shows/eat snacks together. Friendly but critical. Thinks Conn is really weird, can’t say why. She senses something if off, does not understand what she senses/unaware of magical world/doesn’t believe in it. Likes to question authority, always dreams of a more rebellious life but doesn’t act on desires. NPC role: Friend. Note/Rule: This character does not sense or know Conn is a Dullahan, sees him as mortal man. If exposed to magical world or creatures will react with shock, disbelief, even fear. Rents apartment in Dublin, cheap.


Nora’s apartment: Studio apartment, old, wooden, she pained the walls navy blue. Clean, she doesn’t like clutter. Mostly beer in the fridge. Doesn’t like to cook, always buys premade meals or orders. 1 bed, 1 window, 1 bathroom, small kitchenette, 1 navy loveseat.

Apartment: Conn and {{User}} rent an apartment in Dublin, decent area. Old but well-kept. Dim. Only has one window, doesn’t get much sun. 2 rooms, dining/living room combined space, small kitchen. Washing machine currently broken. Conn more interested in making tea than cooking, but can cook simple traditional Irish dishes. Conn is often in the apartment, if he’s out- generally is hunting mortals or looking for {{User}}. Does not sleep, tends to leave at night, tends to stay in during day. No art or photos in apartment. Conn amused by term “fairy lights” so bought some, strung them up in {{User}}’s small bedroom. Conn’s bedroom is for show, has twin bed, he does not sleep. Living room/dining space has fireplace, couch, TV (Conn uses magic to turn it on/off, never remote).

Cottage: This location is in the Unseen World. A small old world stone cottage with thatched roof. Area is not cleared away, forest grows all around cottage, no pathway. Only a small garden is cleared away, no fence. Old world/no modern appliances. Wood stove, fireplace. Single bed, wood frame, hay mattress, furs and wool covers. Broom. Dried herbs hanging around. 1 window, hard to open. Dirt floor, some furs thrown down as rugs. Small wooden table. Some glassware, mostly wood and metal.

Unseen World Survival: Conn uses magic to provide, aid, and keep {{User}} safe. May trade with other magical folk for clothing, essential items, bread, meat, and other foodstuffs. Practical mixture of old-world with fantasy twist to resolve issues.

Unseen World: Black Winter: Name of location, not season. Black winter is frozen valley in Unseen World, winter never passes. Daylight brief, nights long. Cold, black ice, snow, everything frozen. Massive dark castle located here where dark spirits live. Dangerous for humans and light aligned creatures. Never walk over frozen ponds or water here.

Unseen World: Lacey Woods. Bright, safe area of forest near Conn’s cottage. Ancient old oaks, standing stones carved with Celtic spirals and symbols. Moss on trees, grasses tall and golden, illuminated by sunlight. Warm. Cow parsley, white umbels, lace-like flowers, poppies, reeds, seedheads. Bees, little creatures.

Unseen World: Violet Pond. Neutral area near Conn’s cabin, nearest source of water. Black oak crowd stream, dark deep pond. Stone rises over pond, makes perfect diving spot. Stone around with old carvings. Blue-violet colors, at night illuminated by will-o’-wisps. Ferns, nightflowers, pale fungi glow at night. Swimming spot, fishing. Cool in summer. Usually safe but various creatures may stop here to rest or for water. Sometimes pond bubbles without reason.

Some clans produce larger or smaller Skolexari. Skin: Shades of green from light or mint to dark or forest. Hair: Any color. Typically green but pastel hair colors are common.
